How Fées de Lune Began | Celtic Musicians in Montreal

When we look back at everything that has happened, it honestly feels a little funny to think that it all started… in a music school on Montreal’s North Shore.

At the time, we were both teaching music. Marylène — the little brunette — was teaching saxophone and flute, while Anic — the tall blonde — was teaching voice and piano.

And honestly… we connected instantly.

Our days often ended with long conversations in the hallway between students, filled with laughter, music talk, life stories, projects, and instruments. Sometimes we talked so long we would almost end up “in the middle of the storage closet” without even realizing how much time had passed.

Then one day, Anic contacted Marylène to ask for sheet music and a few musical pieces. But obviously… the conversation quickly drifted elsewhere.

Somewhere between two messages, we casually said:

“It would be so fun to make music together someday.”

Without realizing how much that simple sentence would eventually change our lives.

The Beginning of Our Musical Journey

At that time, Anic had just bought her very first Celtic harp and was slowly starting to learn it.

The idea had started after meeting a harpist who performed at one of her album launches at Place des Arts. After the show, the harpist told her:

“You play piano… you’ll see, the harp feels very similar.”

That sentence stayed with her.

So when Anic mentioned it to Marylène, the reaction was immediate:

“No way… I’ve dreamed of playing the harp for so long too!”

A few days later, Marylène came over. We took out the harp, the flute… and played a classical piece just for fun.

And there it was.

Instant magic.

A little while later, Marylène bought a harp too.

We didn’t know it yet… but the adventure had officially begun.

A Weekly Moment We Still Look Forward To

At first, it was simply for fun. To try new instruments. Discover melodies. Take time for ourselves. But very quickly, it became so much more than that. Even today, our rehearsals are still one of the moments we look forward to the most every week.

It’s a space where:

  • music shines

  • we laugh constantly

  • we share stories

  • we try new ideas

  • we completely lose track of time

A beautiful connection grew naturally through all of it… and nothing compares to those moments for us.

The Birth Of The Celtic Musicians Fées de Lune

For several years, we simply played together for the joy of it. Then slowly, things started evolving. We performed in a few libraries and special events… and the more people listened, the more we realized that something special was happening around this music.

That’s when we felt it was finally time to give a name to this project that had been quietly growing.

And Fées de Lune was born — French for “Moon Fairies,” a name that felt like the perfect reflection of the gentle, luminous, and dreamlike universe we wanted to create through our music.

For us, the name represents exactly what we feel when we play together: something gentle, calming, and comforting.

When we think of Fées de Lune, we imagine luminous beings softly guiding people, helping them dream, breathe, and reconnect with themselves.

And that is exactly the energy we hope to share through our music.

Celtic Harp, Wellness and Music

As Fées de Lune continued to grow, we also started realizing how deeply connected wellness and music truly are. There is something incredibly calming about the sound of the Celtic harp. The softness of the strings, the resonance, the peaceful atmosphere it creates… it has a way of slowing everything down.

Many people tell us after concerts that they feel calmer, lighter, or emotionally transported somewhere else.

And that means everything to us.

Because beyond performing as Celtic musicians in Montreal, what we truly love is creating moments where people can breathe, reconnect, and simply feel good through music.

And Now… Everything Is Truly Beginning

Since then, things have slowly taken shape one step at a time.

Our website came to life. Our first video was released. Our projects keep growing.

And now… this very first blog article exists too.

When we think about it, it’s incredible to realize how much can grow from a friendship, a few instruments, and a genuine desire to create something meaningful together.

And honestly… we love this adventure more and more with every rehearsal, every melody, and every shared moment.
